Dim lights, loud music, sparkling dresses, and classy tuxedos all showed up at the a Night in Paris themed prom on Saturday, May 7, 2016 at the Sheraton Hotel in Westport Plaza. With a live band and photo booth, students could dance all night and laugh with their friends.

“My favorite part was the area, I thought the photobooth was cute… I thought [it was] really nice,” said junior Olivia Dudenhoffer.

As boys and girls made their appearance in their suits and dresses, they signed in and were given a voucher to take a professional picture with their dates or friends. Shortly after, dinner was served. The hotel staff provided salad, chicken, potatoes, vegetables, and cake for dessert. There was also a vegan option of rice and curried vegetables, which was new this year.

After dinner, the band started to play, and most everyone got up to enjoy the music and dance. The song selection started with 1980 throwbacks such as “Don’t Stop Believing” and then songs that were newer by artists such as Bruno Mars, Usher, DNCE, and Twenty One Pilots. A slow dance was also inevitable. Ed Sheeran’s “Thinking Out Loud” was the selection for that.

“Everyone was genuinely happy, and it was so much fun,” said senior Chelsea Harris.

Prom seemed to be a success this year, but that couldn’t have been possible without the help of North High staff and prom committee. FACS teacher Becky Bright was one of the many people who helped organize North’s Prom.

“We get a prom committee together. Juniors plan [prom] for seniors. Once the theme gets planned out then, place cards and posters get chosen too. They also help set up the day of,” said Bright.

Other staff members helped chaperone the dance and enjoyed the night with the students.

“I like watching the students have a good time,” said Bright.

The dance began at 7 p.m. and went to 10:30 p.m. at night. Students were able to leave at any point after entering the dance, and teachers and administrators stood by the doors reminding everyone to have a safe night as they left.
