Volleyball Team Finishes Season; Begins Rebuilding for Next Year

Volleyball photoThe Parkway North Varsity Team finished their season on May 11, at the District Tournament at Vianney High School.  North fought long and hard to stay in the tournament, but fell short by a few points.  It was the last season for seniors Daniel Freiberger, Mackenzie Johnson, Devin Sharpe, Kevin Graeler, and Tyler Collins.

Johnson was considered the secret weapon of the team.  Johnson has had a dynamic career in volleyball as he has changed positions many times throughout the past four years.  He will be attending Missouri Valley College on a Volleyball Scholarship.

“My favorite moment at the tournament was getting the game winning kill against Parkway West twice,” said Johnson.  “We ended on a good note. [We were] two points away from going to state, [it] was the closest I’ve ever gotten in my four years here.”

Johnson was not the only person who had a good time at the tournament, junior Christian Barnes an up-and-coming player on the team also had some great moments.

“My favorite moment was playing Parkway West because we played great, we were loud, and we celebrated as a team after every point,” said Barnes.

With the lose of johnson and Freiberger’s devotion (he played all four years), Sharpe’s comic relief (he joked a lot), Graeler’s cunning accuracy with his sets, and Collins’ defensive plays, the team will need to rebuild next year.

“I think we will do great in the next couple of seasons. We have great players we just need to stay focused in games and play to the best of our ability every game,” said Barnes.

With this season over, the team looks forward to next year’s season.  With many new and skilled players joining the team every year, the team has high hopes for next season.

“I think the team will do well as long as they learn to work together. I think they will be successful next season,” said Johnson.
