After weeks of searching for the right outfit, figuring out picture locations, and making dinner reservations, North High students finally had the chance to come arm-in-arm with friends for the homecoming dance. The homecoming dance, which took place Oct. 1 in the North High gym, was attended by 550 students ready to dance with their friends and dates.

Prior to the dance, many groups went to dinner to talk and spend time with friends before dancing to the music later that night. Sophomore Madolyn Jewell went to California Pizza Kitchen with friends before the dance.

Junior Kayley Harris and senior Makyia Flowers-Tolliver have fun dancing during homecoming on Saturday, October 1 in the gym.

“Dinner, I think, is more fun because you can eat food and talk with your friends. But the dance is still really fun though,” said Jewell.

While many went to dinner before the dance, others spent the time to get ready, so that they could arrive in style. Senior Tayler Wagner made a lot of preparations to make sure that her last homecoming was memorable.

“I made this [homecoming] a big deal because it’s my senior year. I started getting my outfit three weeks in advance, I got my nails done a few days in advance, and I got my hair stuff that I needed the day before. Actually doing my hair took an hour and makeup took about 45 minutes. It took days, weeks, hours [to prepare],” said Wagner.

Students also made it a priority to take group photos before they showed up to the dance.

“We only had a little bit of time, but we went to Creve Coeur Lake and my girlfriend’s [sophomore Kennedy Hill’s] house [to take pictures],” said sophomore Jacob Harrold.

Finally, after all of the pre-homecoming events, students made their way to the dance, where they had fun with friends.

All eyes were on the middle of the dance floor as seniors Yan Zhang, Steven Yang, and Tobi Ola show off their best moves.

“I was breaking it down on the dance floor. I had the most fun when I was dancing and when I didn’t care if anyone saw me dancing,” said Wagner.

Other students opted out of dancing this year.

“Last year, I danced, but I danced a little this year. I was really tired because of marching band, and I just wasn’t into it,” said Jewell.

For many students, the party didn’t stop after the homecoming dance; there were parties and other festivities afterward for students to revel in the fun night.

“[My friends and I] ordered pizza after the dance. We also went to a bonfire,” said Harrold.

“I actually didn’t go to a party,” said Wagner. “There was a party available for me to go to but I didn’t go. My friend and I ate pasta and did facials. I wanted more quality time and good memories, and not just being with a bunch of people that don’t care if I’m here.”
