On Feb. 20, 2016, the Parkway North High Step Team will be hosting their annual step show. This year the step show will host not only a  showcase, but also a clinic for students around the Parkway North area. The guests will be students from the middle, and elementary schools with their parents. The step team will first give a performance to the guests, then teach them a short dance.

Because the step team wants the showcase to be great, coach and guidance secretary LaToya Barry has been making sure they rehearse more during the week than their usual time.

“For the show, we usually rehearse 2 weeks before, Monday through Thursdays from 2:45 p.m. to 5:20 p.m.” said Barry.

With the step team putting extra hours into rehearsals, it can sometimes be stressful for the members. Rehearsing for the showcase itself is not easy. There are many routines to learn and rehearse, and the team starts over any time they make a mistake.

Freshman Jada Tiner said that the hardest part about rehearsing for this showcase is “having to start over on the routines.”

Nevertheless, the team members are still able to have a good time together during their rehearsals.

Barry thinks the best part of rehearsals include “coming up with the steps and executing the steps that go with the theme.”

Because the team is working really hard on the execution of their steps for the routine, they are hoping for a good turnout for the showcase and clinic.

“The showcase should be funny. There should be people laughing, and it should bring life to the people,” said senior Tamera Goodwin.

The team also wants the showcase and clinic for the elementary and the middle school students that attend to be fun and want the middle school students to consider joining the step team when they enter Parkway North.

Barry said, “I want the guests to take away how big step is getting in the district and how kids can get involved and the history behind stepping as a sport.”

The showcase and clinic will be held in Parkway North’s main gym at 3 p.m.
