Students from Parkway North will be performing the musical Schoolhouse Rock on March 2 and 3 at 7:00 p.m. and March 4 at 2:00 p.m.

The musical Schoolhouse Rock Live! is about a school teacher, Tammy, who is nervous for her first day of teaching. The teacher tries to relax by watching T.V. when various characters, representing many parts of her personality, emerge to show her how to get her students to like her through music with various Schoolhouse Rock Live! songs.

Choir teacher Paul Cereghino, alum Angel Khann, and theater teacher Chad Little all have been working hard to put this production together.  “I always look for a show that I connect with in some way. That keeps me grounded and gives me energy to share that connection with the students working on the production,”  said Chad Little.

This year’s production features seven performers, which is a small cast for a musical.

Senior Yuki Yang, the leading female in the production, believes that having a small cast makes the work difficult, but makes the cast closer and the dynamics between them better.

“I’m in a small cast, which is unusual for musicals, but it allowed me to be closer to other cast members and really bond with them. It allowed no mistakes as every single person was heard and mattered on that stage but at the same time, we were able to rely on other each whenever we needed to,” said Yang.

Preparations for the production of this show have been underway since November.

The students involved in the musical have enjoyed their time together making this production, and have learned along the way.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed the time it took to create this musical. Yes, there was some bumps in the road but with an amazing cast, crew, Mr. Little, and Mr. Cereghino, I personally believe we created a magical show with unforgettable memories.” said freshman Rome Little.

“The musical takes a lot of effort and time commitment; however, it has also been a learning experience,” said Yang.

The group of students involved may be a small group, but they all worked hard to produce this amazing production. Together they accomplished the finished product of the musical.

“It has taught me the real meaning of dedication, teamwork, and friendship. It has also given me the opportunity to make new friends and reconnect with old ones,” said Rome Little, who plays the role of George, the “country” side of Tammy, the protagonist in the musical.

The musical is also eligible for St. Louis High School Musical Theatre Awards  sponsored by the Fabulous Fox and The Muny. The students will have the opportunity to receive scholarships for their hard work and performance.

Tickets are $8 for adults, $6 for students, and $5 for senior citizens, teachers, ITS members, and children under twelve.
