Senior Women Have Ambitious Plans for 2012-2013 School Year

Senior women president Erica Roux draws up a sketch of a possible mural in the girls restroom. The senior women at Parkway South has murals, but there are no murals at Parkawy North.

This year, the Senior Women are stepping up their role in the North community with a plethora of events and fundraisers.

“[Senior Women] brings all senior girls together into one group to make the school more unified,” said senior Sara Brodsky, Vice President of the group.

Besides bringing girls in our school together, Senior Women also sponsors many events throughout the year.

“[Some events] so far [include] the freshmen girls’ breakfast and selling cupcakes at the Playing For Pink game,” said co-sponsor Julie Parks. “The freshmen girl’s breakfast went amazingly.”

At the freshmen breakfast, donuts were brought in for all the senior and freshmen women. The freshmen then got to sit and talk with senior women about whatever they had questions about.

“We have had positive feedback from both our senior women and freshmen girls.  We believe the freshmen girls were able to make a connection with at least one upper-class woman and walked away feeling more informed about the high school experience in general,” said Parks.

The organization sold cupcakes at the Playing for Pink game to support Breast Cancer research.

“The cupcake sales brought in $363 which was all donated to the breast cancer foundation specifically the Gaubatz foundation. This particular activity was all student driven,” said Parks.

The Senior Women had a meeting in Academic Lab on October 15, where they discussed possible ideas for upcoming events.

“We plan on painting murals on the walls of the girl’s restrooms around school, like Parkway South has done in the past. We also want to do a lock in for all the girls to get more familiar with each other,” said Brodsky.

Senior Women plan on hosting an event for the girls in each grade level by the time this school year is over. But many girls are involved in the organization just for the unity aspect.

“I like for the underclassmen girls to feel like they are part of a good community at North, and I like carrying on the tradition [of Senior Women],” said senior women president Erica Roux.
