Student Government Sponsors “Save the World Week”

Student Government sponsors "Save the World Week" to promote helping out those in need.

During the week of Dec. 5, Parkway North will be participating in Save the World Week, sponsored by Student Government, through different activities geared towards giving back to the community.
“I think [Save the World Week] is a good way to give back and make our school aware of what’s going on and what we can do to help out other people,” said senior Ashley Gupta.
Different events will be held throughout the week to benefit charity groups. Stockings will be sold for $1 in the commons from to benefit Joplin. Hat Day will be held on Dec. 6, with stickers being sold for $1 and all proceeds benefitting Friends of Kids with Cancer.
“I think that students should try to participate in at least one event during Save the World Week because it benefits good causes and is a great way to give back during the holiday season. It’s convenient because it’s here at school,” said senior Jennifer Hoac.
A toy drive will also be held that week.  Donations may be sent to room 2119, placed in the receptacle in the commons, or given at the door of the girls basketball game or the wrestling match on Dec. 9.  Anyone who donates a toy at the door will receive a coupon for a free item at the concession stand.
“In high school, I think we concentrate more on personal needs than what others need, so by sponsoring things like this, North is showing how important it is to give back to the community,” said Gupta.
Save the World Week helps Parkway North students give back to the community and make the holidays better for those who wouldn’t normally have a nice holiday. Student Government is making contributing to the week easy for students by making everything extremely accessible, so students should consider contributing as much as they can to the week.
