Muslim Student Association Hopes to Clear Air with Islamic Discussions

MSA       Many new and intriguing clubs are happening here at Parkway North High. One club has been created to discuss all topics of the Islamic religion, and how its viewed by the media.

“What we do is clear the air of any misconceptions about the Islamic religion that is presented in the media,” said junior Imran Chaudhry.

“We talk about modern issues associated with the Muslim religion”, said senior Moataz Said.

People have different ideas and views about religion. Across the country, Muslim Student Association is trying to give students the opportunity to learn about the true practices of the Islamic religion.

”Some people in the Middle East are doing non-Islamic practices even though they claim it is Islamic, so we are here to educate the of North High to clear the air of any misconceptions before covering fundamental topics such as The Five Pillars of Islam, which will be discussed next meeting,” said Chaudhry.

At North there are many religious clubs that bring students and staff together based on common beliefs. Using social media students can submit questions they may have, and learn about this religion more closely. The club is hoping for the word to spread fasted when using social media like Twitter, Facebook, etc.

”We talk about other topics that interest you, and we will be having a system where you can vote on the next topic we topic about by using twitter,” said Chaudhry.

There are a couple sponsors who help out this club spread their views to the students and staff.

“We have two sponsors: one of them is Mrs. Thornhill and the other is Mr. Daniel from the science department…One of my fellow colleagues, senior Moataz Said, started the idea and I joined in because I thought it was a wonderful idea,” said Chaudhry.

The last meeting was held a few months ago and brought ten people to see what the club was all about. Muslim Student Association assures there will be a meeting right after winter break. The club tries to meet on Wednesdays in Mrs. Thornhill’s classroom after school. Food and refreshments are always included.
