Swimming Prepares for Conference and State Meets

With Fall sports winding down, the Boys Swim team is practicing harder than ever. With practices going about two hours, six days a week, the boys are practicing like it’s the start of the season.  Over the season, the team has grown stronger and became more of a team throughout the long weeks.
On Nov. 2 and 3 the boys will take the pool at Rockwood Summit for the Conference meet. Seniors Alex Hagge, Bret Lundstrom, Keith Gitel, David Scholten and junior Joe Shaughnessy are looking forward to the State meet on Friday, Nov. 12.
Junior Joe Shaughnessy, senior Keith Gitel, and senior David Scholten qualified for two events this year: the 400 yard Freestyle Relay and the 200 yard Medley Relay. Senior Bret Lundstrom also qualified for two events: the 100 yard Breaststroke and the 400 yard Freestyle Relay. Senior Alex Hagge qualified for four events this season at State: the 200 yard Individual Medly, 100 yard Backstroke, 100 yard Butterfly, and 400 yard Freestyle Relay.
“I feel happy and excited to compete at the State meet again. It shows hard work pays off,” said Senior Alex Hagge.
For seniors Bret Lundstrom, Alex Hagge, Keith Gitel, and David Scholten this will be their last high school competitive meet.
Coach Bart Prosser has seen his senior boys change into senior men throughout their four years of swimming at Parkway North.
“I’m always proud of seeing my swimmers make State. I’m excited to see them perform at the State meet. It’s up to the boys to perform and get the job done,” said Prosser.
With the team finishing off the season 8-5 and above a .500 winning percentage, the boys are proud of their performances throughout the season.
