Recycling Club Hosts Electronics Recycling Drive

The Recycling Club is hosting an electronics recycling drive on Saturday, April 2 at Parkway North.  The students are collecting electronic waste that will later be transferred to Computer Trade, a company that will ensure that all materials will be recycled.
“[The materials] include everything from appliances to TVs to laptops.  Students can bring just about anything that runs on batteries or electricity,” said sponsor Andrew Duggan, science teacher.
The Recycling Club is constantly looking for ways to promote recycling and help the environment.  So far this year, they’ve done a creek clean-up and taken multiple field trips to recycling locations and landfills.
“We’ve been working on getting more signs around the school to promote recycling, and we’ve made a lot of new signs to label recycling containers,” said Duggan.
They will also be hosting a tree seedling giveaway in mid-April.  Recycling Club members are planning to buy 150 seedlings from the Missouri Conservation Department to give to Parkway North students and faculty as an Earth Day activity.
“Earth Day is April 22, but we’ll probably do [the seedling giveaway] sooner,” said Duggan.
As Recycling Club prepares for the electronics drive, they also look for new members.  “We have twelve members right now,” said Duggan.  “I think anyone who’s enthusiastic about recycling should join.”
Interested students can contact Duggan in the science department or any Recycling Club member.
