North’s Class of 2020 Prepares for the 2020 Election

In 2020, the class of 2020 will have the chance to vote for the first time.

During a presidential election year, the class of 2020, who are freshmen right now, are going to be graduating, and many will be able to vote in their first election. Because of this, students are starting to think more about politics and the values that they want the next president to have.

It can be difficult for freshmen to discuss politics because they don’t have experience with the political system and, after this last election, some people don’t want to talk politics.

“People did get very offended over the election, especially my teacher, who got very offended whenever we talked about politics,” said freshman Saul Razo.

Students who will be voting next election will have lived through possibly one of the most notable elections in their lives and will have the opportunity to have an impact on who will be the next president.

After an interesting election, people have heard many different opinions, but freshman Chris Powe said, “The people I know have a very distasteful opinion about the last election, and they are definitely not happy about the outcome.”

Other students, such as freshman Garrett Sherman said that since very few people that he knew had a differing opinion than his, there was very little opportunities to have an argument on politics and find out the other side.

Some students are not planning on voting because of how the previous election turned out. Other students do not have any idea who is going to be running for president and do not know if they will be voting next election and have no idea what issues they will be voting for.

Voting in the primaries can help ensure that the candidate that you support gets the party nominee, which is an important part of democracy that not many people participate in.

The class of 2020, as well as the rest of Americans, have no idea what is going to happen during the next election. However, people can agree that voting is very important and the class of 2020 should begin to pay attention to politics.

Sherman said, “We vote so we don’t get a lying and corrupt authority figure,” which he believes will happen if people don’t vote.
