Music Lovers Soak up Music and Rain at LouFest 2012

On Saturday Sept. 25, and Sunday Sept. 26, St. Louis hosted its annual 2 day indie music festival, LouFest, in the Central Field of Forest Park. Despite the spotty weather conditions, approximetly 12,000 music lovers showed up to soak up some music, and rain.

“I volunteered for the event this year so I could get in free, and because it’s a small fest but growing. [I knew] they would have a hard time paying people,” said volunteer Tony Colantino.

The headliners (main bands) for the festival this year featured the Oklahoma native band The Flaming Lips, and the one man mash up artist Girl Talk.

“I came last year, and I came again this year because the bands always do an amazing job,” said Colantino.

The official lineup on Saturday consisted of Sleepy Kitty, King Tuff, Cotton Mather, Little Barbie, Son Volt, Phantogram, Dinosaur Jr., and finally Girl Talk.

“This is our second time playing in St. Louis,” said vocal and guitar player of Phantogram, Josh Carter. “It’s a lot of fun to play at festivals. We definitely had a good audience today.”

Many bands, including Phantogram, did signings after their performances. Fans met and took pictures with their favorite bands performing at Loufest.

Regular 2-day passes were selling for $70 online or $40 for individual days. Tickets could be bought online at loufest.com or at the box office.

“LouFest has good bands playing for a relatively decent price. The Flaming Lips [were] awesome, and I’m planning on coming back next year,” said 2002 Parkway North graduate Michael Clay.

Even with the occasional downpours and delays, approximately 12,000 fans enjoyed the array of artists and bands presented at LouFest 2012.
