Holocaust Survivors Share Experiences With Sophomores

Holocaust survivor Felicia Graber shares a slideshow of her experiences with Scott Kreher's sophomore English class.

On Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 25 and 26, several Holocaust survivors were invited to speak to sophomore English classes about their experiences.
Sophomores taking English II have recently read Night by Elie Wiesel, a memoir about one Jewish boy’s experiences in the concentration camps.  Since the students have just finished the novel, listening to an actual Holocaust survivor speak in class served as a wrap-up for their lesson while helping them understand what the Holocaust victims really went through.
“I think it’s important for students to hear stories from Holocaust survivors so they can feel the personal side to it and learn what really happened,” said sophomore Noah Feuer.
The speakers each talked about their personal experiences for about an hour in each classroom, describing what their families went through and how they eventually escaped the Nazi’s and survived.
“You are the last generation to be able to listen [to Holocaust survivors].  It’s important because you have the privilege to hear [the stories] from someone who was there and can prove to you that it really happened,” said Holocaust survivor Felicia Graber, who spoke to Scott Kreher’s English class on Tuesday.
By listening to the Holocaust speakers on Monday and Tuesday of last week, the sophomores got a chance to learn about the tragic events of the Holocaust further than just reading text.
