As tough girls run through the turf in skirts with lacrosse sticks their hands, the spring season starts for girls lacrosse. Practices began Feb. 29, and many new faces are working together to develop a team, since they lost 9 seniors last year.

The team is preparing for a new and different start with many new players and new leadership by practicing on Monday through Friday from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. They will be voting for captains this Friday, March 11.

Coach Marcia Barasch said, “I’m most excited about seeing these teams come together. We have new people, so we will get to see them blend.”

The girls lacrosse team is split into two teams: varsity and junior varsity with 12 players on the field at one time.

The girls games are coming up quick, so it is good to have an idea of where the team is headed and how to prepare for the games. Junior Abbie Bilicki, who is on the varsity team, has played lacrosse since she was a freshman and said, “I think the season will be great.”

The girls practice by doing drills, and scrimmaging against each other. In the start of the season, the girls begin by refreshing their skills and the team prepares for their first game by setting goals.

One goal Barasch has for the team is that “players will feel proud for what they did the whole season…Everybody gives 100% and is proud of their accomplishments.”

Barasch also hopes that “the team will learn lifelong lessons and make lifelong friends.”

As new members and old members come together to form the team, new bonds can be made to make the season fresh and new.

The girls lacrosse season seems to be kicking off with positive minds and lots new faces. Make sure to see how the season starts by coming to their first game against Rockwood Summit at Parkway North on March 28 at 4:15 p.m. Junior varsity will play first, followed by varsity.
