Girls Lacrosse Hosts Car Wash Fundraiser

On May 14, the Parkway North girl’s lacrosse team will be having a carwash in the Parkway North parking lot from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. to raise money for new uniforms next year. This is the first carwash the lacrosse team has had in the past three years and will be one of the several fundraisers the team will have in order to raise enough money for the uniforms.
“We want to raise money to buy new uniforms so that we can actually feel good when we play next year. No one likes the uniforms we’ve had; they’re uncomfortable,” said junior Rebecca Levine.
The girl’s lacrosse team has had the same uniforms for the past four years, and they have gotten extremely worn out throughout those years. The material has become stiff, making it hard to move around the field comfortably. North is also one of the only teams that still sport the tank top jerseys.  Most other schools have short sleeve or racer back jerseys, which are more comfortable and versatile than the tank tops.
“We’ve had the old jerseys for a long time now and all of the other varsity teams we play look nicer than us.  It can be embarrassing,” said junior Sydney Walsh.
The girl’s lacrosse team at North has been one of ridicule in the past years and has often been referred to as not a real sport. That makes it even more important for the rest of North to try and support the lacrosse team in their efforts to raise money and help them feel like an important part of North’s athletics society.
“No one takes us seriously, even though we work really hard during practice and try our best during games. We deserve to get new uniforms and we deserve the support of the rest of the school,” said Walsh.
The girl’s lacrosse team will also be holding a fundraising night at Noodles and Company, the date of which is to be announced shortly.
