Boy’s Varsity Soccer Wins Conference Championship, Completes Successful Season

The 2010 soccer team for Parkway North captured the school’s first conference championship since 1985, a 25-year drought. Led by captains seniors Robby Kristo, Bradley Hansell, and Sam Muzik, and junior Joe Brinckwirth, the Vikings worked their way to a 17-5-2 record.
The Vikings surprised fans with their play, as they surpassed their total wins for the previous two seasons combined. The team beat many strong other schools, with wins over Mehlville, Lindbergh, Rockwood Summit, and Edwardsville, who at the time was ranked 3rd in the St. Louis area. All four of these teams ended the season with more than 15 wins.
“I’m really glad we could have such a good season in my last year. We got definite help from young talent on the team,” said Kristo.
Kristo ended with 27 goals for the season, which was tied for 6th best in the state on the season, while junior captain Joe Brinckwirth finished with 19 assists, which is 3rd best in state.
Many seniors on the team look to continue their soccer career in college, specifically Kristo, who has a full-ride scholarship to play at Saint Louis University.
“I’m just happy that I got lucky with this kind of talent, and I’m really excited to continue my career and play in college,” said Kristo.
The Vikings’ season ended in disappointing fashion, as they lost to Desmet 1-0 in the district semi-finals. However, many players and fans are optimistic about the 2011 season for the Vikings, as they hope for yet another team to continue the winning tradition.
