Parkway North Senior Use Viking Pass

During last week’s academic lab, teachers and senior class secretary Karen Dodge handed out the Viking pass to certain students, which allows seniors to go off-campus during their academic lab periods, to any seniors who met the requirements and applied for the pass
“I think that it is a privilege extended to our seniors in an effort to motivate them to do better in academics, citizenship, and attendance,” said senior class principal Karen Calacaterra.
The Viking pass was first instituted in 2009 at Parkway North.
“We wanted to have a way to honor kids who are already being successful in school and doing the right thing,” said Calacaterra.
In order to get a Viking pass a senior must not have any Ds or Fs, must have satisfactory attendance (no unexcused absences), must have satisfactory citizenship (no Is or Us), must have no outstanding fees or fines, and must have teacher permission.
“I think the requirements are a good component.  You shouldn’t be able to get one with a D or F in a class.  It ensures that the seniors are being responsible with their time.” said senior Lizzy Ehrhard.
Many seniors are going to use the Viking pass to go out and buy lunch from somewhere or go home.
“I’m going to go out to restaurants and get lunch a lot, and sometimes I’ll go home and sleep.  The Viking pass is something that I’ve been looking forward to my entire high school career.  I’m really glad that I’m finally getting mine,” said Ehrhard.
