Tsunami Hits Japan, America Makes Effort to Help
On March 11, Japan was hit by an 8.9 magnitude earthquake which started a tsunami and destroyed several nuclear power plants. Even though Parkway North is not directly affected by this, the school is making an effort to raise money for Red Cross.
This was a major devastation to the country and around the world. Thousands of people have died and even more are missing or injured.
“Even though it does not personally impact me, it is still unfortunate,” said junior Rodrick Box.
Although this natural disaster occurred across the world, people from around the globe feel sympathy for Japan and want to help them through this rough time.
“This is an unfortunate time in the world, and we need to come together to help them out in their time of need,” said junior A.J. Arellano.
After natural disasters, a lot of time and money is spent in order to rebuild the city to the way it used to be. Many people are left with no possessions or homes and could use help.
Even the smallest help is beneficial. People can bring in clothes and things that people take for granted and give it to someone who is in desperate need of it,” said English teacher David Beck.
Red Cross is making an effort to assist Japan in their time of need. Those who are interested in donating money can text REDCROSS to the number 90999 and ten dollars will automatically be donated to the Red Cross’ efforts in Japan.
Parkway North is also making an effort to raise money for Red Cross. Students can also donate money in the commons at lunch, the library, the bookstore, or room 2009.
