Students Strategize to Study for Finals
December is approaching which means that finals are just around the corner. Freshmen have never taken a final so they do not know what to expect, but upperclassman are here to share their secrets to studying for finals.
Each subject requires a lot of work, so students need to start studying as soon as possible.
“Go over all of the notes and worksheets from the semester and look over what you missed on previous tests,” suggested junior Rachel Sommers.
Many teachers have finals that are composed of questions from previous tests, so looking at what you missed before can be really beneficial when taking the final.
“When I study, I go through all of my notes and rewrite them,” said junior Joey Saltzman.
For many students, writing helps with memory. Rewriting notes can help studnts remember the content.
“I suggest getting a study group together and spend a lot of time quizzing each other and verbalizing their understanding of the material,” said social studies teacher Scott Moeller.
Explaining material to others requires that you have a deep understanding of the material, making studying with friends an effective study tool.
“I like to give myself examples of each type of problem. I also go through and quiz myself,” said Saltzman.
The more students study ahead of time, the less stressful the week of finals really is. Reviewing the notes and beginning to study now is key to being prepared the week of finals.
