Students Participate in Penny Drive; Benefit Modern Lights Organization
This week, Student Council is holding a competition between all of the grade levels through a Penny Drive to benefit the Modern Lights Organization which helps families in the North School area during difficult times. The point of this competition is for each grade level to receive the most amounts of pennies in their assigned bucket and the least amount of silver coins.
“We do this every year along with the recycling competition, and it is especially important this year because this event not only helps out the Northern Lights, it helps publicize the Pepsi Refresh Challenge,” said Miller.
The catch to this competition is that people can add coins that are not pennies to another grades bucket and it will count against them.
“Pennies are [worth one] positive point and silver coins are negative [points],” said junior Anthony Miller.
Not only does this competition help those who are in need of help, it is a friendly competition between all of the grades to see which one wins. Getting the school involved through competition is always beneficial because so many people get involved. It also promotes class unity and spirit.
Junior Lani Tons said, “Instead of spending that last minute coin on food, you can help those who are less fortunate.” This competition will continue until the end of this week.
