Students Gear Up for North’s Talent Show

Dancing, singing, acting, and other unique talents will be showcased Friday, Jan. 27 at 6:30 p.m. in the PNH Talent Show, an event held to support Student Government in 2012.
Planning this event started in December when a committee of six led by senior Jasmine Robinson and senior Anthony Henderson was formed. This committee decided that the talent show should not be a competition, but a show.
“Once the [committee] decided what they wanted, the rest just kind of fell into place,” said Student Government sponsor Bob McKitrick.
While there was no talent show last year due to lack of acts, this show will feature 17 acts.
“It’s always nice to see students performing talents that we might not have known they had,” said freshman principal Rhonda Page. “There might be an athlete who no one knew could sing. That’s one of the things I like about talent shows.”
Students auditioned for the talent show after school on Jan. 17 and 19.  Acts included singing, dancing, and comedy.
Freshman Courtney Bethel-Prost will be singing “Bubbly” by Colbie Caillat for the show. She feels “jittery, but [she] likes the thrill of getting up on stage.”
In previous years, this event has helped support various causes. Two years ago, the talent show raised about $3,100 for Haiti. This year, the money raised will be used to support and restore the Joplin school system.
Tickets will be sold for $3 in the bookstore and at the door.
