Students Consider Safety Precautions for Spring Break
Along with fun in the sun and visiting new places over Spring Break comes responsibility to take precautions to stay safe.
“I am going to the Bahamas,” said junior Julia Snow.
Going to warm areas, students need to take safety precautions to protect skin from skin cancer.
“I will be using tanning oil, with an SPF of 15,” said Snow
According to Gal Times blog, using SPF 15 is for casual wear, best used when planning on being outside for short periods of time. If a student is going to be outside for a prolonged time, SPF 30 is what they should use. Students should also wear sun glasses to protect their eyes from the harmful rays of the sun.
“I will be wearing plenty of sunscreen of an SPF of 45, and I will be wearing sunglasses,” said sophomore Lucas Migneco.
Besides protecting one’s skin, students should also watch out for their personal safety.
“When my friends and I are on the beach, we will not go too far from the resort and always stick together so no one gets separated or lost,” said McClure.
While on vacation, people may use a variety of electrical devices like cell-phone chargers and hair dryers. Electrical malfunctions are one of the top causes of fires, according to ibtimes’ website.
“I will be making sure we lock the doors, know who has the keys, and not leave anything turned on that could burn down the house,” said McClure.
When going on vacation, some people drive to their destination.
“Everyone will be wearing their seatbelt and not texting or being preoccupied since we don’t really know the area,” said McClure.
Being aware of the safety precautions is something everyone should know when going on Spring Break.
