On Nov. 13, 2014, Parkway North students, Anna Chisholm, Jazzlyn Harris, and Brian Coulter, signed to play sports in college. The signings occurred during third lunch in the main gym.

The atmosphere of the gym was exciting, as people filled the bleachers to support their friends or family. Before the athletes signed the contracts, their coaches gave speeches about their time coaching the athlete.

Harris, who signed to play volleyball at Kaskaskia College in Centralia, Illinois, has played volleyball for eight years. Harris said, “When I initially got my scholarship offer I was not really [as excited] but as time went on and I started realizing that I was going to college for free and getting to play the sport I love so much, I really got excited! I couldn’t do anything except pray and thank God”.

Harris’ “career goal for the future is to major in Athletic Training and hopefully be an Athletic Trainer in the pros (NFL, NBA, MLB etc.)”

Chisholm, who signed to play Division One softball at Jacksonville.  has been playing softball for ten year. Chisholm said, “When I signed… a huge weight lifted off of my shoulders, I then had 2 focuses: school and improving my skills.”

Chisholm likes Jacksonville because “[it] has the sweetest coaching staff and a home-like vibe. Plus they’re a winning school with a winning team, they earn their championship rings,” said Chisholm.

One of Chisholm’s greatest high school accomplishments was being All Conference player of the year. She enjoys softball because “it’s a whole different world out there, and I know more about the game than the real worlds ways,” said Chisholm.

Coulter signed to play Division One baseball at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.
