Scott Nilsen Named Parkway North’s Teacher of the Year

On March 14, 2012, social studies teacher Scott Nilsen will be honored as Parkway High Teacher of the Year at the school board meeting.

After being named building teacher of the year, Nilsen was chosen by a selection committee to represent all Parkway High School teachers.

“I’m really honored that the other teachers in the building would honor me like this,” said Nilsen.

One teacher was then chosen to represent the district.

“There is a teacher picked from district level, elementary, middle school level, and high school level to represent. From those, they then picked one to represent the entire district.” said Nilsen.

Even though Nilsen wasn’t chosen to represent the entire district at the state level, Nilsen is very popular among his students. They think that he deserves to be named teacher of the year.

“I think it’s great that he’s teacher of the year. He definitely deserves it,” said sophomore Rachel Monsey.

Although most of his students agree that he’s a great teacher to be in class with, he’s also active in extracurricular activities. He’s a sponsor of Mock Trial.

“As my mock trial coach, he is more laid back. He’s definitely a joy to be coached by,” said Monsey.

Nilsen was a great choice for teacher of the year and he’s a great person to represent the school.
