Principal Marquart Offers to Dye Hair for Charity

Principal Jenny Marquart has promised the sophomore class that if they raise $600 by Oct. 1, she will dye her hair purple for Homecoming Spirit Week. One third of the donations will be donated to research for kids with cancer.
“I will definitely be donating just so I can see her hair purple; it’s good motivation for everyone at school to raise money. But for $600, I think she should do more than dye her hair,” said sophomore Gabe Sander.
Sophomore student government members Mary-Kate Mudd and Sabrina Nelson thought of this unique fundraiser idea. While this may be a sophomore sponsored event, anyone can donate to the cause; the donation boxes are located in the school commons by the snack bar and in the book store.
Senior Darielle Neely said, “It’s kind of crazy what she’s doing due to the fact that no other principal has done anything like this before. It’s weird because students think of her as the strict one and now she’s the one to go this far to dye her hair for a fundraiser.”
This fundraiser was created to show kids that they can have good spirited fun while also raising money for charity.
When Mudd and Nelson proposed this idea to Marquart, they asked to either shave her head or dye her hair purple, “I thought dyeing my hair was the better option. They first asked if I would do it for $100, but I refused. We then compromised for $600. If it will help them raise more money for charity, then I’m happy to do it,” said Marquart.
