PNH Mock Trial Team Finishes Third in State Competition
The Parkway North Mock Trial Team placed third at the Missouri State Mock Trial competition held the weekend of March 30-April 1 in Kansas City at a Missouri State Court House. Sixteen different mock trial teams participated in the event.
“I thought that our team did a really good job. I think our witnesses were very funny and played the characters well. The lawyers were on point and really controlled the courtroom,” said senior Brianna McCain.
North advanced through the first few rounds only to be beaten by Clayton in the semifinals by one ballot. Mock trials are scored by two different juries who score the teams, and one judge who makes a final verdict in the favor of one team. North won one jury 98-94, lost the other jury 93-90, and the judge sided with Clayton. Despite the fact that North scored more points, they ended up losing the trial.
“It was certainly very frustrating. Especially because I don’t think the judge was really paying attention to our closing which was one of the best parts of our case,” said senior Niashadh Hegde.
Even though North’s mock trial team did not advance to the state finals, they are still optimistic about the season’s outcome. Clayton was then beaten by SLUH in the final round.
“Overall, we had a great season. And we have a solid core of players that will lead us to success next year,” said Hegde.
