PNH A Capella Groups Set to Audition

Starting on Aug. 30, Parkway North’s a capella groups, Men’s Room and Powder Room, are having their auditions for the upcoming year.
“We ask each individual to come in and sing thirty seconds of a song of their choice.  Then Mr. Reeves and I determine the appropriate make up of each group.  For certain groups we ask people to come back and sing together so we can hear the best blend,” said choir teacher Emily Matthews.
This year’s format for the auditions is slightly different from what it has been in the past.
“The last few years, they gave us an easy a capella song, and we would pick a part we could sing and learn it.  Then on the day of the audition, we would sing the parts in a group with others,” said senior Josh Byun.
Last year both groups competed at the ICHSA, International Championship of High School A Cappella, competition inDekalb,Illinois, and Powder Room placed second in the competition.
“I was very proud of Powder Room and all the work that they put into preparing and I thought that it was a really good competition with a lot of great groups.  We were honored to place,” said Matthews.
The a capella auditions can be a very interesting time for the members of the groups.
“I’m excited about the auditions because we’ll be able to see the new faces that will be in the group this year.  I’m also excited because we’ll be going to competition for a 2nd time.  We learned a lot from last year so I’m hoping we can win it this year,” said Byun.
Powder Room’s audition is on Tuesday, Aug. 30 at6:45 a.m.before school and their call-backs are at the same time on the next day.  Men’s Room’s auditions are scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 6 at6:45.
