Parkway North Varsity Tennis Goes to State

After finishing second in Districts and being the second seed in Sectionals last year, doubles pair Jessica Greenberg and Emily McCarter did what they had set out to do this year, win Districts.
On Oct. 3, Greenberg and McCarter took first place in the District match at North against Hazelwood Central. The following week, the pair took first place in Sectionals against Incarnate Word.
“It was really exciting because we haven’t lost to Incarnate Word,” said Greenberg.
McCarter and Greenberg are the first team at Parkway North to go back to state two years in a row. Towards the end of the season the pair started playing doubles a lot more to focus and prepare for districts.
“It’s great to see them play more offensively than compared to last year. They were more a defensive team. With this new strategy, we hope they will be able to win more games at State,” said science teacher and tennis coach Elegan Lee.
After losing tough matches last year at State against St. Joe, losing in their first match, they hope to bounce back this year during State.
“As a team, we hope to win a match or two at State, but mainly just have fun,” said Greenberg.
The State match is on Oct 20-21 in Springfield, Missouri. McCarter and Greenberg look to spike the competition and make a run for the title of State Champions.
