Parkway North Supports Breast Cancer Awareness

On Friday, Sept. 30, the Parkway North football team had their annual Playing for Pink football game,  in support of breast cancer awareness. The team won the game,  beating Seckman by a score of 24-19.
“[What] I like most is that all of the students work together as a community for a worthy cause,” said Spanish teacher Maureen Ruiz del Arbol.
For the entire week leading up to the game, Captain’s Council sold shirts to be worn at the game. The shirts had a pink breast cancer ribbon on the front and the slogan “I Pink I Can, I Pink I Can” on the back. The shirts were a hit, as many students were seen wearing them throughout the week and at the game.
“I always like to buy the shirts,” said senior Josh Byun. “They look good, and they’re for a good cause.”
After school on Friday, prior to the game, the Parkway North Peer Teachers held the third tailgate of the year, where there were more sales to go towards breast cancer research. Plates of food and pink bandanas were sold for $1 each.
“The tailgate was really good because we ended up raising a lot of money, and it was nice to see so many people come together for a good cause,” said Byun.
The school will continue to raise money for breast cancer awareness throughout the month of October, and sports teams will continue to show their support by adding pink accents to their uniforms.
