Parkway North Students Celebrate Different Thanksgiving Traditions
With Thanksgiving fast approaching, many people celebrate the holiday in different ways. Some with their families and some with their friends, but either way the spirit of the holiday remains the same.
“Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday because the food is so good, I get to spend time with my family, and it’s a holiday with an actual meaning and purpose,” said senior Lisa Lerman.
Thanksgiving is a day when families spend quality time together reflecting upon the things that they are thankful for throughout the year.
“All of my family comes over and everyone cooks a certain dish. The day before, my grandma comes over and makes this really intricate and delicious stuffing. And then on Thanksgiving, we all watch football and sometimes all the cousins go outside and actually play some football too,” said senior Lizzy Ehrhard.
It’s important not to forget the meaning of Thanksgiving and why it is celebrated on an annual basis.
“Before my family eats, we go around the table and say something that we’re thankful for so that we keep the spirit of the holiday,” said Lerman.
In addition to the normal family Thanksgiving, some students are having thanksgiving this year with their friends.
“This year, I’m having Thanksgiving with my friends because our friend, Josh, has never had a Thanksgiving before and it’s the best holiday so he deserves to have one. Plus who doesn’t want to have two Thanksgivings,” said Lerman. “Everyone’s going to be bringing something different so that we cover all the basics. There’s going to be a ton of people there so there’s going to be a ton of good food.”
Even though Thanksgiving can be celebrated in different ways, the meaning of it remains the same.
