Parkway North Sponsors Stargazing Night

On Thursday, April 12, at 7:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., Stargazing Night will be taking place at Parkway North in the commons and on the football field. Students from nearby elementary, middle, and high schools are invited to attend, and it is free to the public.

“Stargazing night is a night where my astronomy group comes in and we have activities in the commons. We invite people from the middle schools and elementary schools to come in and learn things [about astronomy],” said science teacher Karen Lafever.

The Astronomical Society will be there with their telescopes set up on the football field so that everyone will have a chance to look through them and get a better view of the night sky.

“I find space to be really fantastic and the opportunity to see space through a telescope peaked my interest,” said senior Nicole Videmschek.

The Star Lab, which also shows all of the constellations, will also be set up indoors that night so that the event will be able to take place regardless of the weather.

“I started this to help my students learn astronomy better, to give them an opportunity to view the night sky, and to show the community what a wonderful place that North is,” said Lafever

There will be activities for everyone from kindergarten to adults. Several kid friendly booths with face painting and edible constellations will be set up as well an inflatable planetarium.

“There’s a booth on cultural constellations about how different cultures view [them],” said Videmschek.
