Parkway North Mock Trial Team Competes at State

Over spring break, March 25-28, the Parkway North mock trial team will be going to State Competition in Missouri.  A total of 16 schools were selected for State, 8 of which were from St Louis.
“I am very excited, happy, and proud that we are going to State,” said mock trial sponsor Scott Nilsen.
The mock trial team went through two preliminary rounds in Jan. and Feb, and the top 12 schools of that advanced to regionals.  The top eight schools from regionals advanced to State.
The case that the mock trial team has been working on this whole year, and that has got them to State is a criminal case involving a teenager named Brock Suzik engaging in underage drinking and driving.  The case determines if as a result he hit another car, and if this possible accident caused victim Renee Bennett’s fetus to die when she was thrown into an embankment.
“There is a good change of doing good if we do the work we need to do ahead of time, but there is no sure thing in mock trial,” said Nilsen.
If Parkway North advances from State, they will be traveling to Phoenix Arizona, where they compete against high schools all across the country.
