Parkway North Hosts Cinderella Project Fashion Show

Parkway North hosted their Cinderella Project fashion show Tuesday, March 6  in the theatre for the second year in a row.

“The Cinderella Project is an organization that collects dresses for girls who can’t afford them for prom,” said FACS teacher and Cinderella Project organizer Kara Sussman.

The show is put on to encourage the sale of the dresses collected at Parkway North and around the St. Louis area.

Joy Garcia, one of the nineteen North students who modeled in the show said, “It’s a really great opportunity to help out with a charity but also it’s just so much fun. We get to pick out pretty dresses and have our hair done. You get to feel like a princess for a night yet it’s still for a good cause.”

This event, emceed by junior Jonathan Brown and senior Julisa Powell, featured not only the fashion show itself but also musical entertainment. Among the performers were the Parkway North Powder Room, Parkway North Men’s Room, sophomore Kara Jacobson singing, and senior DJ Holmes rapping.

“It really teaches the students leadership skills and gives them the chance to be involved in something important, while also teaching them the importance of community service. It gives them a chance to do something nice for somebody else,” said Sussman.

But the projects efforts do not stop now that the fashion show is over.

“After we use the dresses they go back to the store and are available for girls to buy at the boutique for $29 each,” said Garcia.

The boutique is located at the Mid Rivers Mall in St. Peters. It opens its doors to prom goers searching for their perfect dress March 10 and will continue to sell the dresses until March 25.
