Parkway North Hosts Fashion Show; Dresses Donated for Cindarella Project

On Jan. 28 Parkway North hosted the Cinderella Fashion Show in the theater to showcase donated dresses for girls who couldn’t afford to purchase their own prom dresses. Through the project, North raised $700 and received 85 dresses for the cause.
“The Cinderella Project is an organization that gives prom or formal dresses to girls who can not supply one for themselves,” sponsor for the PNH Cinderella project Kara Sussman said.
The fashion show was an extension of the Metro St. Louis Cinderella project which aims to “promote confidence and self esteem in junior and senior high school women” by providing them with old prom and homecoming dresses.
Junior Indea Ruhl, co-founder of the Parkway North High Cinderella project, said “[the PNH fashion show] is a mix of a fashion show and a fundraiser to help support the Cinderella project. All of the money made will go to Metro St. Louis Cinderella project at Mid-rivers mall.”
The fashion show promoted the Cinderella project by displaying the dresses that Parkway North students have donated to the Cinderella project.
“The students attending [the PNH Fashion show] will be helping to make dreams come true and there will also be amazing talent and gorgeous dresses.” Kara Sussman said.
The fashion show featured Men’s room, Powder Room, and Deonna Cortez.
Freshman Kara Jacobson a lead singer in the Powder Room said, “Singing for the show was really cool and it [Fashion Show] was a great show.” Jacobson sung the lead vocals for the song I’ve Fallen In Love With You by Jessica Andrews.
There were four categories in the show based on the style of the dresses: black and white, sleek and shiny, big and bold, and short and shiny.
Freshman Cynthia Bliss said, “I loved the show I had a great time the girls were stunning in their dresses and Powder room and Men’s room were amazing.”
Twenty dresses were donated to the Cinderella project and were shown during the fashion show. Parkway North high students modeled the dresses. Models senior Samantha Hamilton, freshman Joy Garcia, and senior Tarika Chhabra were all excited to be apart of the Cinderella fashion show.
Hamilton said “It is an exciting and unique opportunity and I am happy that I can model for this project.”
Chhabra said, “[It was] an exciting yet nerve racking experience.” Chhabra also donated her own dress to the Cinderella project.
Bare Escentuals were also apart of the Cinderella Project and helped with the models by doing the hair and makeup for the models.
Garcia said, “The project was a unique opportunity to help girls.”
After the show the donated dresses were sent to the Cinderella project at Mid-rivers where they will be sold for $20. North students can donate dresses to the Cinderella project at anytime.
