North’s Girls Varsity Basketball Team Improves to 12-6
With a five game winning streak, the Parkway North girls’ varsity basketball team has been making a name for themselves around North and within their league. While maintaining a 12-6 record, they’ve managed to create a stronger bond than in previous years.
“The team is a lot closer than before and really versatile. We have a lot of different girls on the team this year,” said junior Paige Marshall.
Last night, the team played Rosati-Kain in their tournament at Parkway Central. They went into the game with even records, both teams at 11-6. While the Rosati-Kain players may have had an advantage with their height, the North girls still pulled out a victory, winning 46-31.
“It was a tough game and it hurt, but it was a really good win. They were a lot bigger than us,” said Marshall.
Not only did the team prove themselves last night, they’ve been working hard all season and it has paid off. The team lost against rival Pattonville, 33-59 during the Summit Tournament earlier in the season but on Tuesday, Jan. 17, won against them 50-38, showing their dedication and improvement throughout the season.
“Our record doesn’t reflect how good we are because we’ve had some really tough losses against some really good teams. We only lost by 1 to Webster Groves, which is a pretty good team,” said senior Maggie Brandon.
The Parkway North girls’ varsity basketball team is one to watch, especially with the season coming to an end. The next game is Friday, Jan. 27, at 8:30 p.m. at Parkway Central against Jennings.
