North Students Strive to Keep New Year’s Resolutions

photoOn New Year’s, everyone, including students at Parkway North, make a New Year’s Resolution. One month has passed since New Years’ Resolutions were made, and while some people were successful in keeping their resolutions, others were not.

“I didn’t make a New Year’s Resolution because you’re never able to keep them,” said sophomore Rebecca Levin.

This is true for many people who say what they are going to change in their life for the New Year but find it is easier than actually staying committed to accomplish it.

Sophomore Irina Shalinskaya said, “My New Year’s resolution was to spend less time on the internet, but it only lasted for a day.”

Some students stayed committed to their resolution; junior Cassidy Munie wanted to eat less fast food. Munie said, “I kept up with resolution by finding healthy options at fast food restaurants.”

Many students goal this year was to get a good grade point average. Sophomore Chase Asberry said, “I wanted to keep a 3.0 grade average I decided a good way to keep it was to do my homework every day.”

To keep these resolutions, students are using technology as well as old fashioned techniques to remind themselves to always stay committed.  Freshman Sophia Bell keeps a Post-it note to remind herself to participate in one act of kindness.

Other ways to keep resolutions include the following ideas: (1) Be specific on what you’re going to do and how you’re going to accomplish your goal. (2) Make a reminder to keep that goal-like a Post-it note or an electronic calendar reminder, and  (3) make sure your goal is achievable for you.
