North Steppers to Hold Step Show
The Parkway North Steppers has grown the past couple years. They are most well known for their performances at the homecoming pep rally and different assemblies that North has throughout the year. On Saturday, March 10, the Steppers will host their own show, recognizing their talent along with the talent of other school’s step teams.
“I’m going to the step show to support my friend. I think it’s fun to support the different groups at North, and I think that if you enjoy watching them during homecoming why not go to their show? They deserve the support; they work really hard,” said senior Jenny Heck.
The show is in honor of Black History Month and the North Steppers use this time to unite with other step teams from around the area to show their support for black history. The show is much like a competition among the teams and takes a “step-off” form, but rather than competing against each other, the teams are coming together to show their love for the dance form.
“I think [the steppers] are one of a lesser known and different extra-curricular activities at North. [At the show] we invite other teams and we get to see what they do. It’s cool because everything we do is made up by us because we don’t really have a coach; we have team captains. This is the only time we get to be showcased by ourselves,” said step team member, junior Celina Yim.
Tickets will be sold for $5 at the door and the step show will begin at 3 p.m.
“We need people to go to the show because a lot of the show is audience participation. It makes it more fun with more people there to help out,” said Yim.
