North Seniors Eligible for PTO Scholarship

The Parkway North High PTO Scholarship was created in 2005 for high school seniors who go above and beyond to help their school and their community.

Four scholarships worth $500 are available to any senior applicant who demonstrates his or her commitment to the Parkway North Community and plans on attending an institution of higher learning in Fall 2012.

Senior Lisa Lerman said, “I’m deciding between Duke and Xavier.  I decided to apply for this scholarship because you can use it for any school you want and that’s a really good opportunity for me because I haven’t chosen what school I want to attend.”

These students are nominated by Parkway North parents after an application process, including a 300 word essay that explains how the student has demonstrated their commitment to the Parkway North Community and after high school plans.  Also, a student must submit a resume with any activities they have participated in at North, along with any extra activities they participate in with the community.  After a student submits his or her application, a committee of Parkway North parents will review the students’ scores and reviews.  After the finalists are chosen, they will participate in a ten-minute interview with the scholarship committee.

“I think the interview is a good thing because interviews help with real life experiences.  It’s always good to prepare yourself for future jobs,” said counselor Linda Gatti.

A student must also have a staff recommendation from Parkway North.  Applications are due March 9.  The committee scores will be back on March 26, and on April 2 and 4 during Academic Labs, interviews will take place.

Senior Tamika Dorsey said, “I’m applying because its free money and I feel I deserve it because I have worked very hard and it’s always nice to have extra money.”

Going to college is an expensive experience, so any extra money can help.

All senior students may apply for this scholarship.
