North Choir Members Particiapate in Solo/Small Ensemble Festival

On March 4, a few selected members of the Parkway North choir will participate in the annual Missouri State High School Activities Association solo/small ensemble festival at Florissant Valley Community College.  High schools from across from Missouri participate in this festival.
“I participate in this because I really enjoy singing and it gives me an opportunity to work on my own individual voice,” said junior Josh Byun.
According to Byun, the audition is about five minutes long and the participant sings two contrasting pieces in front of a judge.
“I always get nervous because I have nothing or no one else to depend on but my own voice, but practicing a lot helps me to prepare for that,” said Byun.
If the singer receives a rating of 1, they move on to the state festival which is held at University of Missouri-Columbia.  They then have a chance to compete with the top singers from Missouri.
“It’s a really good experience because there is not that many opportunities for me to perform by myself or in a small ensemble.  Preparing for a solo/small ensemble gives me a chance to work on things I otherwise wouldn’t be able to do in a regular class,” said Byun
