NHS Sponsors Blood Drive at Parkway North

On Nov. 15, the national honor society or NHS will sponsor a blood drive at Parkway North hosted by the Mississippi Valley Regional blood center.  It will be held in the gym all day for anyone who signs up.
According to senior Lexi Dressel, who is in charge of the blood drive for NHS, anyone who signs up to give blood, whether they actually can on the day of the drive or not, will receive a free shirt.
“Students should give blood because it is an easy way to help save lives,” said Dressel.
Last year, about 115 students donated blood, and in order to beat the goal of 100 units of blood, the blood drive needs as many people to donate blood as possible.
“All of the donated blood goes to the SSM hospitals in the area.  All of the blood stays local which is another reason to donate,” said Dressel.
There are some restrictions and rules as to who can donate blood.
“You have to [be] 17 or 16 with a parent consent form, you have to have healthy levels of iron that will be checked on that day, and there are certain places that you cannot have traveled,” said Dressel.
