Senior Lounge is replaced

For many years, the Senior Lounge has been a place designated for seniors, until this past July, when it was remodeled as a new lounge area for all students.  This change was made in order to provide a location for the vending machines, and to create more space near the new registration room at Parkway North High School.

The changes that took place over the summer included the removal of the carpet and sitting blocks, as well as replacing those with tile floors, tables, chairs, and new vending machines.

“Our school became the North registration area [for all schools], and we needed a space.  We chose the printing room for the registration room, and then moved the vending machines to the lounge because it was a more logical place,” said Principal Jenny Marquart.

The new lounge is not only just a place for senior students, but is a place where anyone can go no matter what grade they are in. Many students use the lounge to eat lunch and socialize.

“The lounge is for anybody.  There should be a place in the school where any student can be,” said Jenny Marquart.

Student reactions on the new lounge vary from person to person.

“Honestly, I think it’s boring.  I thought it was fine before everything changed.  The seniors last year got their own place, and we should be able to have that too,” said senior Austin Bell.

While some express their dislike towards the new lounge, other students discover a new place to eat lunch and hang out with friends.

“I think it’s a lot nicer and a lot cleaner.  It’s a much better placement for the vending machines.  I never really used to do anything in the old senior lounge, but now I eat lunch here and buy stuff from the vending machines,” said senior Taylor Jay.

Whether liked or disliked by students, the lounge will remain the same for years to come, and will continue to be a place for those of all grades to socialize and eat lunch at Parkway North High School.
