Parkway North Holds College Fair

On Sep. 27, from 6:30 P.M. -8:00 P.M., Parkway North High School will host a college fair in the upper commonswhich gives students the opportunity to talk with college representatives to help them determine which college is right for them, the scholarships available to them, and other information available regarding the transition to college from deadlines and campus visit schedules.

“I want to go to get more information on colleges I want to attend and get some information on other possible colleges for me,” said junior Alyssa Paul. “This is my first college fair, [and] I hope to learn the majors they have, and what all you need to do to apply and get accepted.”

It is difficult to research college during the busy school year filled with projects, books, and papers. The college fair provides one place for students to get most of the info needed.

“Students can expect over 100 universities and colleges, as well as military representatives, to send admissions representatives. The college visits during the school day and the college fairs are the best way to get an overview of each school to see if he or she is interested in applying,” said college and career coordinator Stephanie Martin.

Whether a student has already narrowed down their college search or is in the early stages of the process, the fair is open to all students and can help increase chances of getting accepted to colleges who send representatives as well as help narrow it down.

“All students should begin their college search by looking at all possibilities, then narrow their choices later,” said Martin. “The general rule is to explore two colleges that are a stretch, two that are a perfect fit, and two that are slightly below (for scholarship purposes) his or her credentials.”

The college fair is hosted every year by a different Parkway High School. Martin suggests that students “rank the schools you want to visit then see as many representatives as you can comfortably fit in.”
