New Club Sends Care Packages to Soldiers Overseas
On Dec. 9, students will gather for the first meeting of an after school club that puts together and sends care packages to soldiers overseas fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Sophomore Ben Weinstock said, “Thursday is an informative meeting [discussing] what we are going to do.”
Sophomore Jason Thompson is the founding member and thought of the idea this past Veterans Day when he heard how much soldiers appreciate the care packages they receive.
Weinstock said, “We’re going to be sending care packages to soldiers over seas. We are also going to be sending letters.”
Many projects, like the ones this new club will be doing, are often done by students from elementary and middle school, but soldiers appreciate packages from older students as well.
Corporal Moore of the U.S. Army said, “I think it’s cool that [high school students] are doing something, especially since its high school. We usually get things like this from elementary or middle school students.”
The club’s goal is to show appreciation for soldiers and help ease the stress of being far away from home.
“I received letters from my daughter’s class back in 2006 when I was down range,” said Moore
The first meeting will be after school on Thursday, Dec. 9, in Melody Barger’s room.
