Mini Relay Raises Money to Fight Cancer

Last Friday, March 11, The Mini-Relay for Life was held at Parkway North, raising $4,275.34 towards the fight against cancer.

“The relay went really well. We got a better crowd than last year. The committee worked very hard on the relay this year…The highlight of the night was the entire crowd that was there pieing me in the face,” said senior T.J. Burke.

The Relay included many different events to raise money to fight cancer, such as the Mr. Relay contest where contestants dressed up in different outfits throughout the week to raise money for the Relay. Senior Eric Litz was named Mr. Relay at the end of the event because he raised the most money out of the contestants.

“I had a lot of fun doing the Mr. Relay competition. I didn’t win, which was disappointing, but it was for a good cause and we raised a lot of money,” said senior Aaron Hummert.

Another hit at the Relay was the pie booth, where people could pie either T.J. Burke or Principal Jenny Marquart in the face.

“It was for a good cause so all in all, getting pied in the face was okay. Going into it, I thought that Marquart and I would get an even amount of pies, one for her then one for me and so on. But that wasn’t the case. She got eight pies and I got 27. The next day, after two showers, I could still smell the whip cream,” said Burke.

The committee chairs for next year’s Relay have already been chosen. Juniors Anthony Henderson and Anthony Miller will be in charge of the relay.

“I wish them both the best. They’ll do a great job. But it will be a tough act to follow this year’s relay,” said Burke.
