Men’s Room, Powder Room Prepare for Competition
On Sat. Feb. 26 Parkway North High School’s show choirs, Men’s Room and Powder Room, with be competing at DeKalb High School in DeKalb, IL against ten other show choir groups for a chance to move to a national competition.
Both Men’s Room and Powder Room have been practicing for the competition vigorously for the past two weeks, “We’ve practiced every morning at 7 am,” said sophomore Danielle Feinstein, “We were even practicing on President’s Day when we had school off. We all are very dedicated.”
All of the rehearsals prepare the members for the competition and also boost morale. “I feel very confident going into this,” said senior T.J. Burke, member and vocal percussionist for the group. “We practice a lot and our music is solid.”
Powder Room will be performing Pop Contemporary songs and Men’s Room will be singing songs in a variety of genres including Country.
“We will sing Jesse’s Girl, Chicks Dig It, and When You Say Nothing At All,” said senior Men’s Room member James Skorburg.
Men’s Room and Powder Room will be judged against the other groups attending the competition for first, second, and third place.
“Rather than ratings, like at many choir competitions, we will get comments on our performance and place against the other groups,” said Feinstein.
“We are shooting to do the best that we can do vocally and if we can achieve that then I have no doubt that we can place well,” said Skorburg.
The group that places first will move to a national competition in New York, NY on April 16.
“It would mean a lot to win,” said Burke. “We would receive the recognition that we all deserve.”
