Medical Club Combines Science, Fun
The Medical Club at Parkway North had their first experiment, investigating how a stethoscope works and taking blood pressure, that took place Oct. 5. They will be doing more experiments this year, hearing speakers, and taking field trips.
“My expectations this year for Medical Club is to involve more new members from the class of 2013 & 2014, have fun, have 2-3 speakers, do a dissection- probably a bird, and take a field trip to St. Luke’s Hospital,” said Medical Club sponsor Frances Leverenz.
The Medical Club has been around for at least 15 years and continues to find ways to combine science and fun.
“I always have the students that are members choose the topics for speakers and what activities we do each year- two that we have done and are popular are a game – we have had scavenger hunts, disease knowledge games, match the disease to the cure, and usually we watch an episode of a TV show together” said Leverenz.
Besides increasing their own knowledge, the members of the Medical Club will be helping out their own community in April.
The next Medical Club meeting will be November 2 in Leverenz’s room.
