This past week in the Post-Dispatch, senior Heather Lundstrom was named Swimmer of the Year for her second time.

“I’m honored because I put a lot of hard work and time into [swimming] and I’m glad with the results,” said Lundstrom.

Not only has Heather worked hard during season, but also in the off season with Parkway Swim Club.

“I wake up early to get to practice, even on weekends,” said Lundstrom. “I work hard at practice and ‘dry land.’ Monday, Wednesday, and Friday we have morning practice at 5:00 a.m. until 6:45 a.m. Monday through Thursday we also have practice 5:00-7:00 a.m., then Saturday 6:00 am until 9:00 p.m.”

Although a great honor, this is not Lundstrom’s first time receiving this recognition.

“Last year I felt that Kate Gately, from Parkway West, should have gotten [the honor] over me because she was a senior and also won two events at State. But I feel like I deserved it this year,” said Lundstrom.

Lundstrom’s award doesn’t just affect her, but it has an impact upon our whole community.

“When someone is selected as the best at what they do, it’s something that brings pride to not only herself, but the school and the community. It’s well deserved,” said former swim coach Bart Prosser.

This is the first time in school history that an athlete has been named a two time Post-Dispatch Swimmer of the year.

“In the 20 years that I’ve coached, I’ve never had this happen,” said Prosser.

Besides the great honor given to Lundstrom, senior Amber Alexander was also named in the Post-Dispatch 2nd Team All-Metro.

“I feel like it’s a great accomplishment. Over the years I’ve worked hard. I’ve played as a leader for my team over the past four years that I’ve been at North,” said Alexander.

Although North’s Women’s basketball team lacked size, Alexander helped out where she was need.

“I feel like I’ve played well guarding other people and knowing when to score and come alive for my team,” said Alexander.
