Liz Morrison speaks at History Club
On Tues., Nov. 27, the History Club had its second meeting of the year in history teacher Joni Patton’s room. The club hosted a guest speaker, Liz Morrison, the Coordinator of Professional Learning for the Parkway School District, who is a World War I enthusiast. The focus was not only on World War I, but also the history of Thanksgiving.
“I’m the historian [of the club], so I make a powerpoint and present it at the beginning of the meeting. [The powerpoints] are about the history and events that have happened during this month in the past,” said sophomore Klaira Kronov, the co-founder of the club.
The club meets once a month and they always have snacks for the members.
“Every meeting we talk about a new subject; the last meeting was history of Halloween. Since our theme this time was the history of World War I, Mrs. Patton got the guest speaker to come in,” said Kronov.
The History Club started back up this year after a few years of intermission.
“I started the club again because kids were inquiring about it and there was enough interest to start it again,” said Patton, who serves as the club’s sponsor.
Although the club is new to North this year after being absent for several years, there has been a great turn out.
“The last two meetings have been really full, around 25 kids per meeting. There have been many more students since the last time around,” said Patton.
Days before the meeting, there are flyers put up around school to make students aware of the club.
“I love history and I wanted to come share something I’m passionate about,” said Morrison.
Many students are very excited to add this new addition to the list of clubs that North offers. Anyone who likes history is welcome to join.
“I think that history is fascinating. You can learn a lot about the society you live in by learning about the past,” said Morrison.
The next History Club meeting will be sometime in December. More information will be provided through the daily announcements.
