Inclimate Weather Causes Multiple Snow Days

Due to the large amount of snow and ice this week, Parkway School District called off school Jan. 20 and 21.  This made for a four day weekend and the third week in a row without 5 days of school.
Even though these days will most likely be made up, students and faculty believe snow days are important due to safety concerns.
“I think we should have snow days because many students have trouble getting to school when it is icy,” said junior Jessica Middleton.
The main concern for snow days is for safety.  When the conditions are hard on busses and student drivers, it is best to call off school.
“Snow days help the safety of students because we don’t expose them to severe weather conditions for those that stand out at bus stops and those who drive to school.  We help prevent a lot of accidents,” said Officer White.
“I think [snow days] are good because they keep students and teachers safe off the road,” said senior Kara Baum.
Parkway has already had four snow days this year.  The school board has not announced if or when these snow days will be made up, but possible dates include Feb. 21 and May 27.
