Girls Golf Perform at Sectionals
On Oct. 29, sophomore Stephanie Mazzoni, senior Rachel Yoem, freshman Gretchen Gregory, and senior Erica Chan qualified for Sectionals in girls golf, which will take place on Oct. 6.
Despite having a small team and a small fan base, girls golf looks to make a big impact in Parkway North’s history. The girls team has been off to a great start this year, overcoming obstacles and challenges along the way. Practicing with the team as well as individually has improved their game as a whole.
“Everyone has worked really hard this year in practice to improve their game which reflects in their scores. The coaches, Mr. and Mrs. Carter, try to work with us one-on-one to help with our own needs,” said sophomore golfer Stephanie Mazzoni.
With a small amount of girls on the golf team this year, the team is expected to be ready to step up and perform well every match. At the Webster Groves Invitational, the girls finished second out of ten teams.
Mazzoni said, “It was a bit of a shock, but everybody did their best that match and it paid off.”
“Overall, our team is like a big family. Everyone is doing her best and our team is improving gradually everyday,” said Chan.
Mon., Oct. 4 is the Parkway Quad and Wed., Oct. 6 is Sectionals.
“This has to be one of North’s strongest girl’s golf team in a long time. Everything seemed to click this year. We work hard everyday in practice, and we stay focused during important matches,” Mazzoni said.
The girls team may be short in numbers, but they don’t lack in skill. The girls look to finish off the season on a high note in Sectionals and State.
